Secretary's 2019 Show Report:
HARTINGTON WAKES SPORTS & COUNTRY SHOW 2019
The best yet! Another fabulous day at this year’s annual agricultural show with a record public and competitor attendance. This made for a great crowd around the main ring who enjoyed spectacular displays and demonstrations. The day kicked off with a lovely display of Pleasure Driving Horses and vehicles who were then treated to a drive around the surrounding countryside with a pub stop! The Heavy Horses were magnificent again, with a large turnout, which wowed the crowds and put a smile across everyone's faces, their presence and beauty seems to have an effect on us all! Another one of our main ring attractions meant that Judge Carole Wilson had the extremely hard task of picking out her 'Champion of Champions' which is contested with a champion from each section, having to narrow it down to two from 6 Horses, 6 Sheep and 2 Cattle! Our grand parade showcased some amazing vintage vehicles with brilliant commentary from Mr Nick Kitchen who is an encyclopaedia of knowledge on the subject, our show president Mr Chris Dullage and vice president Mr Graham Kirkham chose their winning vehicles/engines with great difficulty, and presented the winning owners with their rosettes as they paraded around the ring. We had demo's from 'The Derwent Valley Gundogs' who were raising money for the Air Ambulance, Richard Heath and his 'Dog and Ducks' and 'The Four Shires Bloodhounds' who are always popular with the younger members of the audience who like a good cuddle! We had a record number of 'Fun Dogs' which gave on site vet Mr Peter Stubbington a tough, head scratching couple of hours judging, it was great to have such enthusiastic young handlers! Our new team in the Handicrafts tent had some quality entries which looked fantastic, so to round up what was another fabulous year the committee would like to thank all that helped setup before and on the day, all the stewards, judges and section leaders, because without you all these small shows would not survive, and last of all to everyone who attended which made it such a lovely day to enjoy. See you all next year!!
